MTFA and our Lewisham Creative Chorus co-ordinated a highly successful Big Give Arts for Impact campaign between the 17th and 24th March 2026.
The match-funding campaign was made possible thanks to generous support of the Reed Foundation alongside pledge supporters. This enabled the over £15,000 raised in public donations to be doubled, meaning £30,121 was raised in just one week for Lewisham Creative Chorus and their new show Dancing in the Mirror.
The fundraising week was kick started by a message of support from MTFA patron Alexander Armstrong, and followed up by an incredible collective effort from members of Lewisham Creative Chorus and the MTFA team.
As part of the fundraising effort, MTFA artistic director Thomas Guthrie took part in a sponsored boxing match with former Heavy Weight boxer Julius Francis at Miguels Boxing Gym in Brixton.
Speaking about the reason behind taken on this fundraising challenge, Tom said:
“Storytelling gives people a sense of belonging. It’s the fireside. We all need it. We always have. And right now — arts funding is hard, communities are stretched, and the spaces where this happens are closing. Every pound donated and minute spent with local groups opens doors for people.”
All donations to this campaign will support the work of our Lewisham Creative Chorus and their new production, Dancing in the Mirror, written with best-selling author Rhik Samadder, to life at the iconic Fellowship Inn, Bellingham, on 22nd and 23rd May 2026. You can donate directly here.
