We’re delighted to announce that tickets for Our Street on 20th July 2024 at Catford’s iconic Broadway Theatre are now on sale. Our Street is Lewisham’s very own Urban Opera, co-created by the community and world-class artists.
Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, the national development agency for creativity and culture, and a highly successful Big Give campaign, we’ve been working with the community to bring this genre-defying, borough-uniting extravaganza to life in a full-scale performance this summer.
What is urban opera?
Urban Opera is much more than a performance. Building on the Royal Opera House’s iconic Write an Opera programme (1979-2015), participants collaborate in every aspect: composing music and scripts, designing sets, performing, managing and advertising every element.
LUO started in 2022 as part of the Lewisham Borough of Culture celebrations and together with the legendary jazz singer-songwriter Gwyneth Herbert and a whole host of professional creatives, participants co-created the songs for ‘Our Street’. A preview performance was held in Summer 2022 at the Homestead Café at Beckenham Place Park to a great reception and featured in our ‘Lewisham Urban Opera – the journey to 2022’ film.
Tickets start from £10 and are now available to buy from the Box Office at the Broadway Theatre. They’re selling fast so be sure to buy yours soon.
